The Use of Panax Ginseng to Reduce the Cardiotoxicity of Doxorubicin and Study its Effect on Modulating Oxidative Stress, Inflammatory, and Apoptosis Pathways

BACKGROUND: Doxorubicin (DOX) is a broad-spectrum anti-cancer drug that used to treat variety of cancers, including blood cancers such as leukemia and solid tissue cancers. However, its use some time limited because cardiotoxicity. OBJECTIVE: The objective the study was determine cardioprotective effect ginseng in case cardiotoxicity caused by doxorubicin therapy. Methods: Thirty experimental animals (male Sprague Wistar rats) were this research they separated into three groups: Rats Group I (n# = 10) given distilled water plus normal saline, rats II doxorubicin, III Panax doxorubicin. Serum concentration, malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione reductase (GSH), lipid peroxidase (LPO), TNF (ng/L), cardiac troponin brain natriuretic peptide BNP(g/L), caspase-3 (pmol/L) levels measured all groups. RESULTS: substantial result significant increase elevation cTnI 40.09 ± 6.67 (ng/L). In addition, MDA, LPO, TNF-α, increased group compared control p < 0.05. reduced (cTnI) on reduction BNP insignificantly 0.06. LPO MDA raised antioxidant potential biomarker GSH significantly inflammatory (TNF-α) apoptotic (caspase-3) biomarkers when group. CONCLUSIONS: According findings study, suppresses reactive oxygen species pathways rats, thereby preventing doxorubicin-induced cardiovascular events.
